Spring 2011 Newsletter

We are delighted to announce that we plan to begin daily broadcasting on May 14th at 8 am!

We’ll start with six hours that include live DJ’s and pre-recorded programming. At 2 pm we will repeat the broadcast. In order to celebrate our entree onto the airwaves, at 8 pm we’ll be combining four hours of special programming with a blowout launch party.

We will be doing periodic test broadcasts between now and May 14th and we are interested in your reception of our signal. Please give us feedback at info@kptz.org.

Tag line contest

As we will soon be on the air, we are searching for an appropriate and creative tag line (like a motto) to go with our KTPZ announcements.

Since our contest for a logo turned up such good ideas, we’re doing it again. You can e-mail your ideas to contest@kptz.org, or mail them to PO Box 2091 in Port Townsend. Our deadline of February18 is coming right up, so put on your thinking caps.

The winner will be announced on February 22 on our website.

REALLY GOOD NEWS

As the leaves start to fall, our hopes for broadcasting rise and, so we hope, will our new radio tower! Early this month we secured land on Jacob Miller Road to install the tower. This location will give us very good coverage in Port Townsend and out into the county. We will also reach parts of Sequim and Whidbey Island.

KPTZ TO BUY FIRST EQUIPMENT

Hurrah! KPTZ recently sent out its first set of requests for bids on transmission equipment in accordance with the grant received from the Public Telecommunications and Facilities Program. Helping with the technical side of these bids are two retired radio engineers, Lou Schneider and Bill Putney. Their volunteered expertise will put KPTZ “On Air” sometime this year.

KPTZ Receives Federal Grant!

We are thrilled to announce KPTZ FM has been awarded a $150,000 grant from the Public Telecommunications and Facilities Program (PTFP). This agency within the Federal Department of Commerce pays 75% of the costs of constructing and equipping new nonprofit radio stations. Late last year we jumped on the opportunity to apply for a state-of-the-art broadcasting system, and were very fortunate because funding is tight and the process is competitive.
