NEWSLETTER WINTER
2008
We will be using regular newsletters to update
you on progress on the radio station and to provide you with news that
we hope will be useful to you. If you have any comments you can reach us
at mailto:info@kptz.org
On Ground Hog Day, February 2,
2009, KPTZ is having a party. All those who made our FCC application
possible by pledging money to help build the station are invited.
We thought this would be an appropriate date because we are still
something of a mystery and don’t know for sure when we will make our
first public broadcast. However, we want to recognize our supporters and
give them a chance to get to know The Board of Directors, volunteers,
and our program director, Larry Stein.
The party will be at the Port
Townsend Yacht Club at 2503 Washington St. We’re offering our founders
desserts made by Port Townsend’s finest chefs.
Joey Pipia is going to be our
Master of Ceremonies for a lively evening of information and idea
sharing, live music programming with local djs, and a raffle.
Those of you who have sent in money
will receive a small but special gift that recognizes that you paid your
pledge. Others can still honor your pledges and receive the special gift
by sending a check to us at PO Box 2091 or pay by credit card at
donate to KPTZ now!
The party starts at 7 p.m. We hope
that you will RSVP either by calling 379-6886 or sending us an E-mail.
We’d love to have an idea of how many of you to expect on this
auspicious evening so that we can know how many plates and forks to have
on hand. And, ah, yes, there will be wine available.
In November 2008 KPTZ applied for
501c3 status from the Inland Revenue Service but have not yet received
notification that we are official. Once granted, all future donations
will be tax deductable and all previous donations will also be tax
deductable.
In December 2008, we completed a grant request
to the Public Telecommunication Facilities Program (PTFP) that would
cover 75% of all our startup equipment costs. The equipment list we
submitted would provide us with state-of-the-art studio, production and
transmission capabilities. We won't hear back from them until September
2009 at the earliest so some of our work has to be put on hold.
Christopher Overman is the winner
of the KPTZ logo contest. Quite a few people submitted design ideas and
we thank all of them. It wasn’t easy to narrow the field, but we liked
Christopher’s use of the bell tower since it was once the town’s
emergency broadcasting system. Other designs incorporated the bell
tower, but we liked the design’s simplicity and it’s adaptability. We
hope you like it as much as we do.
We are pleased to announce that
Larry Stein will be KPTZ’s Program Coordinator. Larry has worked as a
producer at public radio stations in Santa Monica and Seattle for more
than 10 years. He has also been involved with community non-profit
groups and activities throughout his professional career. At KCRW in
Santa Monica, he taught many aspects of radio work, and has already
started training some of us to do audio recording and editing. His
interest and expertise have already proven invaluable.
We are also pleased to announce
that Marilyn Butz, owner of Bizcardpro has volunteered to be our
Bookkeeper. |
