(Airdate: April 14, 2026) We’re in Xinjiang Province, visiting the Astana Tombs, where the elite were buried fifteen hundred years ago. Since we remembered our flashlights we were able to visit the underground chambers. Most of the artifacts discovered there have been removed to a museum, but there are a number of well-preserved corpses and a number of wall paintings. One of the paintings in particular is worth mentioning….
#283 John Mauro – Not Just the City Manager
(Airdate: April 14, 2026) Maryanne interviews John Mauro, PT City Manager. You see his name in the newspapers, he’s a regular on a weekly show on KPTZ. And he even has regular coffee sessions with community members. But do you have any idea who he really is? He studied Environmental Science and led hikes in the Himalayas. He won the prestigious Watson Fellowship which took him to Ghana, Nepal, Australia and Bolivia. He was in the Peace Corp. and later worked at an Environmental Center in Aspen, Colorado. When his wife found a job as a Professor at the University of Auckland it was off to New Zealand for seven years. That’s all before coming to PT. There’s more. Find out on Our Town.
Earth Day Celebration with Abracadabra Trip
KPTZ is happy to present an Earth Day Celebration with Abracadabra Trip on Saturday, April 18 at Finnriver Farm and Cidery. Arrive at 5pm for a pre-show happy hour and gallery exhibit of Abracadabra Trip’s global adventures on board their bus, followed by the full band performance in the pavilion, beginning at 6pm. The Abracadabra Trip project was born from frontwoman Laura Newman’s experience singing at environmental justice and peace marches. She believes music is a uniting force for peace and healing, as do we! You can hear an exclusive interview with Laura Newman on Friday, April 17th at 4pm, during Mixtape with DJ Christine on KPTZ. Brewocracy Now ~ 4/09/26
KPTZ”s Taylor Clark and Port Townsend City Manager John Mauro welcomed Tara McCauley, executive director of the Jefferson County Historical Society and we talked about their new exhibit which opened this past weekend. The museum is located in historic Port Townsend City hall and is open Thursday thru Sunday from 11am till 4pm. There is a theme for the current exhibit and that is ‘home’. Tara is full of interesting stories, so listen in!
