County Connections

(Airdate: June 12, 2026) GAS! This week on County Connections, Commissioner Heidi Eisenhour and Jim Burke talk about an urgent issue that was discussed in a tabletop exercise this week where members on EJFR, Sheriffs Dept. PT police, County DEM, PUD, and others including Heidi worked on the problem of rising fuel costs and dwindling supplies that are having a negative effect on all these departments and should be of concern to all county residents. As the Strait of Hormuz remains closed – and even if it reopens to shipping tomorrow – the ripple effect of a 20% reduction in crude oil and reductions of other resources could be felt everywhere for months to come. Also, All-County Preparedness Day in Jefferson County takes place on Saturday, June 27, 2026. This free, family-friendly event is held at Finnriver Farm & Cidery in Chimacum, WA from 10am to 4pm.

We’ll stop by Port Headquarters for an update on activity around the Port, And then head for the Boatyard to visit with Amy Shaub, the owner and operator of the fishing vessel Norsel, which is a wooden purse seiner built in 1950. She lives aboard, and she’s here to tell us the boat’s story, and talk about her own history and passion for fishing on the open water.

#287 Eron Berg – Steering the Port of Port ownsend

(Airdate: June 9, 2026) Maryanne interviews Eron Berg, the Executive Director of the Port of Port Townsend. Maritime trades account for roughly 30% of all employment in PT and Berg manages it all, including things that most of us might not think of as part of the Port. For example, the airport is within his jurisdiction. His law degree is an asset when it comes to managing our complex, sprawling Port.
