Midsummer Night’s Dream

(First airdate: March 16, 2024) Taylor Clark had a chance to talk with Marc Weinblatt, who is directing the Ocean K/12 production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. We were joined by Oberon (Luca – see photo above) , Titania (Orlanda) and Bottom (Argus) who performed some choice scenes for us.

Northwind Art Classes for Spring

(Airdate: February 26, 2024) This week on Attention Please! host Jim Burke is joined by Diane Urbani (Communications Manager of Northwind Art) and Leila Block (Education Assistant and Instructor) and two teaching artists, Meg Kaczyk and Dana Sullivan. They discussed the class offerings at Northwind Art School for spring 2024. They also discussed the artistic process and the fact that anyone can be an artist, it’s all about doing! Adventuress Cooking

(Reprise Airdate: February 19, 2024) KPTZ’s Taylor Clark and Jim Burke head to boat haven to meet with Adventuress cook George Clark to get a crew’s eye view of what goes on in the galley to keep everyone aboard well fed. Adventuress is a 133′ gaff-rigged schooner built in 1913 that is operated by the non-profit organization Sound Experience, providing environmental education in the Salish Sea.

Short Step Back in Time

(Airdate: February 12, 2014) From the archives of Tossed Salad comes A Short Step Back in Time, in which Leader publisher-emeritus Scott Wilson interviews Mark Welch, a Port Townsend native whose roots stretch to the early days of the city. Of particular interest are the changes to the culture of the Port Townsend as young ex-urbanites arrived and brought with them skills and interests which turned the city from one of fishing and logging to one of art galleries and festivals. Hosted by Phil Andrus.

Living Incognegro

(Airdate: January 29, 2024) Host Jim Burke spoke with Director Denise Winter, Actor/Playwright Gin Hammond, and Scenic Designer Michelle Cesmat. All three are involved in the Upcoming Key City Public Theatre’s production: Living Incognegro, that runs from the February 1 preview through February 11. From KCPT’s website: “When your cultural identity is one thing, but your physical identity is another, how do you navigate self-expression? Both a humorous love-letter, and an academic discourse, dedicated to those who find themselves in the middle of a cultural battle they never asked for.”

FEED Truck in Chimacum, CoLab Downtown

Chimacum, Downtown and Beyond, part 2

(Airdate: January 8, 2024) Back to downtown Chimacum we go for more on what has been spinning around the agricultural hub of Jefferson County. Joining host Phil Andrus are Katy McCoy and Phil Vogelzang, owners of the Chimacum Corner Farmstand and now owners of the property on which it resides; Sarah Spaeth, Director, Conservation & Strategic Partnerships of the Jefferson Land Trust, co-developer of the concept of Chimacum Commons; and Ben Wilson of Olympic Housing Trust, on plans for workforce housing in Chimacum Commons.

Poet Laureate of P.T.

(Airdate: January 1, 2024) Jim Burke spoke with Connor Bouchard-Roberts who is the first poet laureate of Port Townsend, and Lindsey Wayland, Chairperson of the Port Townsend Arts Commission, about the Poet Laureate program and how it came to be. Both Connor and Lindsey read Poems during the program which demonstrated how poetry can provoke and inspire.

The Greatest Gift

(Airdate: December 25, 2023) For Christmas Day, 2023 Attention Please! presents Don White’s adaptation for radio of The Greatest Gift by Philip Van Doren Stern, the story which inspired the film It’s a Wonderful Life. In the cast is Don White as George Pratt and the late Lawrie Driscoll as the mysterious stranger. Heather Dudley Nollette plays George’s mother, Ma Jenkins and George’s wife, Mary. Scott Nollette plays Jim Silva and Art Jenkins.  Also in the cast are Heather and Scott’s youngsters Elan and Aiden. The Whiteout Theatre Troupe first performed The Greatest Gift at the 2017 Holiday Extravaganza.
