County Public Health Report ~ 1/19

The following is a summary of the presentation made by Dr. Locke, our local Health Officer, during the Public Health briefings at this week’s Board of County Commissioner’s meeting:

Note: As of this day, Jefferson County now has 269 cases, with 125 cases per 100,000 population, a 3.18% case positivity. Neighboring Clallam County has 154 cases per 100,000 population with 8.5% new case positivity. Both counties remain among the lowest in both metrics in Washington.  Mason County has recorded 360 cases per 100,000 population and 19.8% positivity for new cases, with Kitsap County at 233.cases per 100,000 and 12.5% positivity.  The metrics for Mason, Kitsap, Jefferson and Clallam Counties are tied together in determining progression to the next phase of loosening restriction for re-opening under the RoadMap to Recovery statewide plan.

Jefferson County Arts & Heritage – Share Learn and Be Inspired!

(Airdate: January 19, 2020) Today’s guests, Jefferson County Historical Society Executive Director, Shelly Leavens and Tara McCauley, Director of Education and Public Programs, describe how this iconic nonprofit engages the region with unique and diverse stories of Jefferson County. Through collections, research, exhibits and programs, they bring our community together to share, learn and be inspired by the arts and our local heritage. From their First Friday Speaker Series to their recent “Dear 2020” letter campaign, we learn how JCHS endeavors to engage our community and foster programs that bring life to history and culture into our lives.

Our Working Waterfront ~ 1/18

This month on Our Working Waterfront, Port Commissioner Pam Petranek, and Port Director Eron Berg join us from the deck of the schooner Cape Cleare.  We talk about the ongoing attention to our Port’s infrastucture, long-term plans in Quilcene, storm damage and repairs, and citizen participation in Port planning and activities.  Pam tops it all off with good news about Carol Hasse’s Sail Loft and its employees, as Carole plans her 2021 retirement!
