Missy Nielsen has worked in the nonprofit sector over the past 20 years, from leading a social services organization for expatriate families while living in China, to driving development efforts for an afterschool STEM program. Her work consistently focuses on helping others thrive and grow, thus her passion for volunteerism. With a degree in Human Behavior and Ethics, her life work has also included Career Counselor at the University of Washington in Washington State.

When not working on behalf of the youth of Port Townsend, Missy can be found scrambling up a mountain, galloping down, creating art from salvaged objects and capturing stories from newly made friends over a cup of mocha. Most importantly she loves connecting folks to opportunities that ignite passion and purpose in life — indeed Everybody Can!

Morning on the Salish airs every Tuesday morning from 9:30 to 11am. An actor and performer for many years, Chris Bricker graduated from California State University, San Jose with a B.A. in Theater Arts. After travels around Europe for a year, he did a stint at KTAO FM radio in Los Gatos CA as a show host.

He is a graduate of the Ringling College of Clowns, Class of 1971 and worked with Ringling Brothers & Barnum & Bailey Circus for three years. Later, he traveled throughout Japan, Hawaii, the Virgin Islands and the continental U.S. performing in other circuses as well. Along the way, his musical saw playing came in handy. Chris and both his young sons, Christopher & Noah, teamed with their Dad for domestic engagements with various circus producers. As shipboard performers, he and his son Noah also traveled to Finland, Estonia and Sweden. Chris is a member of Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Radio & Television Artists (SAG-AFTRA), and has worked in film, television and commercials. He is also a saw-playing member of the American Federation of Musicians Local 1000 (acoustic travelling musicians union).

His work experience over the years has also included union representation and organizing. He began his Labor Movement career representing hotel and restaurant workers, and later he was a field organizer for California state workers. He has been the opening act for the Western Workers Festival Concerts in the San Francisco Bay Area, as well as for the Great Labor Arts Exchange Concerts in Silver Spring MD. He has also toured with the New Old Time Chautauqua.

Wake up to the sounds of Brazil! Wednesday mornings, Al Bergstein brings us Music2DrinkCoffee2, an acoustic musical tour of Brazil’s best choro, samba, bossa, forro, indigenous music and more. Featuring music from Brazil along with Brazilian-influenced musicians from around the world. Al features new work launching each week along with historic versions & background on what you are hearing. With marine weather and occasional guest artists.

Charlie Doyle, the Program Host and Manager of the KPTZ Musical Pub, hosted two hours of Celtic and Folk Music, Sunday afternoons from 3 until 5pm. Charlie explored Celtic music from all of the countries that make up the Seven Celtic Nations. Music ranged from a Celtic harper playing an 18th Century tune written by Irishman Turlough O’Carolan, to over-the-top performances from shows like Celtic Woman or Riverdance. Folk singers from around the world were also spotlighted. During each show, there was a humorous interlude where Charlie would deal with a performer of dubious talent who wants to be on the show.

Roots & Twang, which aired Fridays in the 3-5pm time slot from June 2022 through April 2024, was your weekly dose of Country, Roots and Americana music hosted by Karen Anderson, the “Truck Driver’s Daughter.”  Karen brought a diverse mix of artists you wouldn’t hear on commercial Country radio stations, and broke the stereotypes of the genre with her eclectic musical selections. Some listeners said, “It’s the country show for people who don’t like country.”

Dave Long came to KPTZ with more than 25 years of community radio experience, all volunteer. Dave’s musical passion was to share traditional styles and sources revolving around fiddle music. Stringband Theory is an eclectic mix of traditional songs, ballads, hoedowns, and dance music from Celtic lands, Canada, Appalachia, and all across the US.
